Samuel Phillips Law helping Make a Will month to succeed

Make a will month

Thursday, August 1, 2019

Samuel Phillips Law is taking an active part in this year’s St Oswald’s Hospice’s Make a Will month. It means that throughout June, it will offer Wills at a special rate and donate the fee to St Oswald’s.

The law firm has a well-established relationship with St Oswald’s as part of its community and charity links.

Sarah Bowes, Associate Solicitor in the Wills Probate and Trusts department at Samuel Phillips Law said:  “St Oswald’s shines a light on the importance of making a will sooner rather than later. Too many people are put off because they think it’s pricey or problematic, but in most cases, it isn’t. It also means you and your family can rest easy, knowing the will is properly put in place.”

“Often people decide to make a will after a traumatic event.  However, when emotions are heightened it is not the best time to coolly consider the future of your legacy.”

“Make a Will month gives many people the impetus to have a chat with a solicitor.  They find out it doesn’t have to be daunting or expensive, and that their wishes are set out clearly for the future.”

Nicky Watson, communications officer at St Oswald’s Hospice appreciates the proactive approach of Samuel Phillips Law. The hospice is working with many regional law firms to help spread the message and the effectiveness of the campaign. She said:  “Sarah Bowes from Samuel Phillips Law is a great help in introducing the Make a Will month to her and the firm’s clients.

“There are some surprising facts about will-making, and Sarah provides answers to guide you through. She’s great at communicating clearly and dispelling myths about making a will.”

Make a Will month has been going for 20 years at St Oswald’s. Last year, the donations brought in $205,000 to the hospice. A number of regional solicitors take part to spread the effectiveness of the campaign.

Samuel Phillips Law, based in Grey Street, Newcastle upon Tyner, is active year-round with community and charitable activities. As well as its long-established relationship with St Oswald’s, it supports the Alzheimer’s Society, with many staff trained as Dementia Friends. The law firm also supports the North East Young Dads and Lads project, to make life better for young men and boys under 25, particularly fathers or fathers to be. Samuel Phillips Law carries out some pro bono work for local charities and the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and offers its offices to an outreach women’s programme in Gateshead.
